Sarah's Concert with Orchestra at Harbroufront

Last night Sarah sat down with a 21 member orchestra at busy Harbourfront stage with new arrangements of past songs and unveiling many new songs from her classical album, "Sea."

In the hot and humid afternoon they rehearsed on stage with a tweet from Sarah indicating they didn't have the music for the bass section that wouldn't print.

Following a comedic set by the Joe Trio, Sarah took to the stage at 9:30pm.  All songs where played with the orchestra with the exception of her new song Attention Archers played during the encore.  In total they would play 5 new songs from her new album for the first time.  Like in Elora, Sarah confirmed that Everything By The Gallon that was recorded on the b-side album for Beauty Lives has now been composed by Jonathan Goldsmith  for the Sea album.  Concluding the set each member of the orchestra was thanked by name.

The Setlist with all new songs in bold.

Modern Man I & II
Lonely Side of the Moon
Duncan
Everything by the Gallon
Cosmic Ballet
The One True Love
Elitot
The Right Words
The Rose
Napoleon
Parasol

Free Concert on Toronto's Harbourfront - August 6th

sarahslean3_july10

Sarah Slean is returning to the outdoor stage at Harbourfront this summer for a free concert.  The concert takes place Saturday August 6th at 9:30 PM on the newly named West Jet stage.  Sarah played this same stage last year on Canada Day.

The headlining concert is part of an event called "What's Classical" and is curated by the Art of Time Ensemble's Andrew Burashko.

The event page sheds some more details on Sarah's new album.  The Sea album is described as having 4 original orchestrations by Sarah and 3 by Jonathan Goldsmith.

This is only the second known concert date Sarah has planned for this summer.  The first will come at the Elora Festival on July 16th.

More details can be found here:

Tickets and information for this event can be found here.

Last year we told you about an early look at this project where Lucy Rupert danced to The Disarm Suite found on The Baroness Redecorates.  A video of that dance has been uploaded in promotion of the new season.

Free Concert - Canada Day @ Harbourfront, Toronto

Sarah Slean will be playing this year's free Canada Day concert at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto on July 1st.  Sarah's last public concert was this holiday at Harbourfront.  In recent years, Harboufront has had acts like Owen Pallet and Feist play their Canada Day concerts.

The Sadies will follow Sarah's set this year.  A full list of the day's activities and details can be found on the Harbourfront site.  This free event at the time of publishing has not been confirmed on Sarah's official site.  A last.fm event page has also been dedicated to this concert.

Thanks to Neal for tweeting about this one.

Sarah with the Art of Time Ensemble (again!)

Just as Sarah Slean and the Art of Time Ensemble released Black Flowers together, the 2009/2010 Season includes two events that feature Sarah.

The first is the weekend of September 28th with 2 nights in tribute to the Beatles Abbey Road album. Sarah did a cover of the Accross the Universe at this year's Holiday Show.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the release of The Beatles’
Abbey Road, we present the entire album—re-imagined,
re-invented, and performed by top Canadian artists from the classical, pop and jazz worlds.

Deals are still to be had on side seating and for those who have seen Sarah or the Art of Time at Enwave before should note that there are really no bad seats

The second event is that Sarah and the Art of Time Ensemble will be doing shows in support of Black Flowers again. The dates have yet to be determined, but I would pencil in October and check back here to see if your city gets a show.

Another Holiday Guest Revealed

Posted below is a spoiler on another of this year's scheduled guests...

A few weeks ago we posted about a collaboration Sarah had done with The Roaring Girl Cabaret. Thanks to the comments of Emma Whitefield, who pointed out that Miranda Mulholland of the Roaring Girl Cabaret is joining Sarah for both nights of the holiday concert. This is confirmed on Miranda's myspace page.

We announced who another of the guests would be a few weeks ago in this thread.

On a side note, it appears that the CD copies of The Baroness Redecorates that went on sale exclusively through Sarah's online store sold out today. Copies should still be available at her concerts.

Art of Time Ensemble - Music Archived on CBC Radio 2

Last week we announced CBC Radio 2's broadcast of the Art of Time Ensemble featuring Sarah Slean. For those that missed it, Normal on the SarahSlean.com forum pointed out that the show has now been archived over on the CBC Radio 2 site. Most the recordings seem to be featured from the second night of performances.

Andrew Burashko of the Art of Time Ensemble spoke and played songs with Classical 96.3 FM during the week of performances.

Sarah & The Art of Time Ensemble - CBC Tonight

Sarah's performance of two new songs inspired by Franz Schubert and played with members of the Art of Time Ensemble will be played on CBC Radio 2 tonight. The concerts were played on March 15, 2007 and March 16, 2007.

Wednesday, April 18, 2007, 8:00 p.m.
18/04/2007

Catch a pair of concerts from Toronto that break down the barriers tonight on Canada Live. First, a concert in which the Art of Time ensemble asked singer-songwriters Sarah Slean, Andy Maize (of the Skydiggers), Martin Tielli (of the late Rheostatics), Danny Michel and John Southworth riffing - in their own styles and voices - on their choice of music from Franz Schubert's iconic E flat Piano Trio. Later, Sir Andrew Davis leads the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in his own arrangements of Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor. Canada Live, with Matt Galloway, tonight at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC Radio Two.
-CBC Radio 2

For those outside of Canada, CBC Radio 2 does broadcast online and across as Canadian time zones. CBC Radio One, had played one of Sarah's inspired new songs 'Lonely Side of the Moon' on their show Metro Morning following the first night's concert. A clip of the rehersall was also used on the CBC television show, The Hour.

John Southworth had opened for Sarah's last concert at the Harbourfront 'enwave' theatre. Sarah and Martin Tielli shared rolls together in the film Blackwidow.

Thanks to a fan for a heads up on tonight's air date.
