The Animals are Planning an Intervention - Video

Earlier this year dancer and choreographer Lucy Rupert debuted a new piece titled The Animals are Planning an Intervention and was set to original music by Sarah Slean.  The music titled String Quartet no. 2 is for sale and you can now watch dance's premiere on YouTube.  Watch the playlist below for all 3 pieces.

Sarah's New Quartet piece for Lucy Rupert

Yesterday was the first time Sarah's new string quartet piece for dancer Lucy Rupert was heard.  The free concert at The Canadian Opera Company's Richard Bradshaw theare was packed with an audience made up of both the young and old.

15 minute excerpt of the 30 minute piece was performed.  The title of the dance that will be shown at the Enwave Theatre is titled 'The animals are planning an intervention.'  The music that was was very well received was most closely comparable with The Disarm Suite.  In the Q&A session following the dance Lucy advised the first time she heard the song being played in rehersal she had a connection with it.

The song has been recorded by some familiar names of Sarah's past albums with  Drew Jurecka (The Baroness), Karen Graves  (Day One/Orphan Music/Blue Spruce) Kathleen Kajioka and Amy Laing (Art of Time).

Danceworks performance of the entire piece on April 7-9 at the Enwave Theatre.

Sarah's New Arrangement for Dance (Video)

Earlier today Sarah tweeted about arranging a string quartet for The Blue Ceiling Dance Co.  The dance event that will host this new arrangement of Sarah's is to take place April 7-9th 2011 at Harbourfront.

Last year we told you about an early look at this project where Lucy Rupert danced to The Disarm Suite found on The Baroness Redecorates.  A video of that dance has been uploaded in promotion of the new season.

Dancing to The Disarm Suite - Jan 29/30

Lucy Rupert will be choreographing to Sarah Slean's music again. We have previously mentioned Lucy as she had danced to Sarah's poem, the Abecedarian and as the choreographer for the music video of The Rose.

At the end of January a new choreographed piece will be shown.

I have been able to confirm that the composed song for this performance will be a recording of The Disarm Suite from The Baroness Redecorates. A new compostion by Sarah is in the works for a dance at a later date.

Watch the dance inspired by Sarah's Poem, The Abcedarian

In November we wrote to inform you of a poem Sarah had written for the inspiration of a dance routine. The poem titled, The Abecedarian, was danced by Lucy Rupert.

You can now see her performance here:



The words of the poem are not spoken and I can not tell with certainty that the music is by Sarah. The voice in the last few seconds of the clip does appear to be her's.

Lucy kindly advised that the music is Arvo Part, a section of a piece called Lamentate and the words spoken are not by Sarah, but by Lucy herself. Sarah's poem was projected overhead but not visible in this video. The poem may still be published at a later date.
